Collaborative Working Environment

The MSLC is a collaborative space where students can learn together and support one another throughout their academic journey.  UIC students are encouraged to attend any learning session that best fits their schedule whether it is in person or online.

Everyone should have the opportunity to engage in academic support sessions and ask questions.  Although there may be opportunities when you are the only one attending a session, there will be times when there are several students present for one session.  Visitors are encouraged to allow time and space for all members of the group to participate and maintain a welcoming environment where everyone feels invited to learn, together.

Communication

Please be mindful of how you express yourself and engage with others at the MSLC.  Visitors should not interrupt other individuals when they are explaining material and asking questions to the session host.  It is best to wait for a student to finish their discussion before contributing to the conversation.

Students, Teaching Assistants, Instructors, and staff should also communicate with the MSLC if any issues arise during their visit so the MSLC team may offer assistance and support.  Academic support providers should also communicate any schedule changes or updates so the MSLC can inform student visitors.

Respect

All students, Teaching Assistants, Instructors, and staff are expected to be respectful towards one another while working together in the MSLC.  You may be asked to step away from a session, if you are not having a polite conversation and being disruptive, while others are asking for help.  Please remember that learning is a partnership, and everyone is expected to work collaboratively and respectfully.

Academic Integrity

As noted by the Office of Dean of Students, UIC students commit to pursuing their education with complete honesty and integrity.  Students should not participate in cheating, fabrication, bribes, threats, plagiarism, and academic dishonesty.  If you are not following student guidelines, you may be reported to the Dean of Students for your actions.

Please review the Guidelines for Academic Integrity at UIC on the Dean of Students Policies page.
